3. Signature Template

SESM supports a Word document (.docx) as a signature template. A sample template document is included in the SESM.zip download archive. You can either edit this template or create one from scratch.

Things to consider when creating a signature template:

  1. The Template document must be in .docx format. Older document versions (.doc) are not supported.
  2. The document should not exceed one page.
  3. For Active Directory fields, the corresponding LDAP attribute name need to be included within the Square Brackets. For example, to add a user’s display name from the Active Directory, enter the LDAP name as shown below.
    [displayname]
To know the LDP attribute names of commonly used Active Directory fields, see Table 3.1 below.
Active Directory – LDAP Attribute Names

  4. When creating a Signature, SESM will use the same text formatting as the Active Directory field, including the square bracket. Any custom text formatting, such as color and font size, should also be applied to the square brackets.
  5. Do not add empty space inside the square brackets.
  6. If you use tables in the template, avoid merging table cells. In some cases merged cells may work, but may have compatibility issues with older operating systems such as Windows 7.

The image below shows how SESM converts the sample template document into an Outlook Signature by obtaining LDAP values from the Active Directory.
